Headache treatment for people in Kensal Green, Kensal Rise, Willesden, Queens Park and Harlesden

Headache
Headaches are common and can have many different causes. They may be associated with tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back, changes in the way the neck moves, stress, poor sleep or prolonged periods spent in one position.
Some headaches, including tension-type headaches and some headaches associated with the neck (cervicogenic headaches), can be accompanied by neck stiffness, muscle tension or discomfort around the base of the skull. Headaches may also be experienced around the temples, forehead or behind the eyes.
It is important to remember that not all headaches are related to the muscles or joints of the neck. A thorough assessment can help identify whether your symptoms may be influenced by the musculoskeletal system and whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate.
How can osteopathy help?
Treatment begins with an assessment of your symptoms, posture and movement, including the neck, upper back and shoulders. This helps identify areas of stiffness, muscle tension or altered movement that may be contributing to your headaches.
Where appropriate, treatment may include gentle hands-on techniques to improve movement in the neck and upper back and reduce muscle tension. Advice about posture, movement and activities that may be aggravating your symptoms can also be provided.
Exercises may be recommended to improve neck and upper-back mobility, strength and control. These are practised during the session to make sure they are appropriate for you and can be performed comfortably at home.
If your headache pattern is new, changing, unusually severe, or associated with other concerning symptoms, further medical assessment may be recommended before osteopathic treatment.
